Housewife rescued from Bataan landslide

-
LIMAY, Bataan — A 57-year-old housewife was rescued by her neighbors when heavy rains spawned by tropical typhoon "Juaning" buried in mud a semi-concrete house in Sitio Ayam, adjacent to the perimeter fence of Barangay Lamao Elementary School here the other day.

Superintendent Ernesto Flores, Limay town police chief, identified the victim as Zenaida Bermijos, a sickly woman who was not able to ran out of the house with the rest of the family when a truckload of mud and boulders hit their house.

The victim’s husband was out fishing when the accident occurred at around 4:10 a.m.

Police reports showed that barangay officials and neighbors of the Bermijos rushed to the site to retrieve the landslide victim for almost two hours, using shovels and bare hands.

Bermijos was brought to the Department of National Defense (DND) munition plant then later transferred to the Bataan General Hospital in Balanga City. Raffy Viray
