More dengue cases reported in Cordilleras

BAGUIO CITY — Health authorities have noted a sharp increase in the number of dengue cases in the Cordilleras, with more infected villagers reported in four more municipalities, three of them in Kalinga.

A "state of calamity" is still in effect in Tadian, Mountain Province where a four-year-old girl succumbed to the mosquito-borne ailment last July 14.

More dengue cases have been reported in four more towns: Tabuk (84), Pinukpuk (19) and Rizal (nine), all in Kalinga, and Lamut, Ifugao (275).

As of last weekend, the regional office of the Department of Health had so far recorded 684 dengue cases in the Cordillera Administrative Region.

The DOH’s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit said the number represents almost a four-fold increase from the 193 cases reported from January to July 23 this year.

In Tadian town, entomologist Ursula Segundo said there are now 86 dengue cases from the 57 reported as of July 23.

The DOH also reported an upsurge of dengue cases in the Mountain Province towns of Alfonso Lista, Ifugao and Paracelis.
