CEBU The four-municipality Camotes Island will soon have commercial flights after the rehabilitation of the airport of San Francisco town, Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) general manager Adelberto Yap said.
Yap said Sea Air and Asian Spirit have shown interest in establishing flights to Camotes Island from Mactan. However, the two airline companies have yet to conduct an ocular inspection of the area.
A joint venture of the MCIAA and the provincial government, last months rehabilitation of the Camotes airport, which will be operational in three months, stemmed from the request of San Francisco town officials.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia earlier said that having commercial flights would boost tourism on the island since it is a potential tourist destination.
Meanwhile, Yap said the MCIAA is expanding its terminal to accommodate more international flights.
He said that pending the construction of a new terminal, he would put two more tubes at the existing terminal in preparation for the two additional international flights starting next month.
Yap said Asiana Airlines will have a direct flight from Korea to Cebu starting July 16, and Korean Airlines two days later.
