A provincial prosecutor investigating allegations of corruption involving government officials was shot dead in an ambush in Batangas City yesterday.
Two men attacked Guillermo Gamo, resident Ombudsman of the provincial government of Batangas and a supervising cooperative development specialist, in Barangay Balagtas as he was driving to work, regional police chief Jesus Verzosa said.
Gamo was found inside his car with multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of the body. The unknown suspects escaped on a motorcycle.
Police recovered from the crime scene 16 empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol.
Verzosa has ordered Superintendent Don Montenegro, Batangas provincial director, to conduct an investigation and identify the gunman as soon as possible.
Verzosa would not say though if police suspected the shooting was motivated by Gamos anti-corruption work. AFP, Ed Amoroso
