Cebu City gets tough on sidewalk vendors

CEBU Stalls of sidewalk vendors here would be demolished within the week in line with City Halls campaign to decongest traffic and in response to complaints by various business establishments.
City urban poor consultant Gerry Marquez said that at least 20 sidewalk vendors doing business in front of Plaza Fair along Colon street were ordered to vacate the place last week. Owners of more than 20 stalls near the Sto. Niño Church were also reprimanded for going beyond the designated area provided by the city.
At least 30 sidewalk vendors stalls along Sanciangco corner Leon Kilat streets would be likewise demolished after the New Cebu Coliseum had complained about the structures.
The demolition of barbecue stalls along V. Rodriguez as well as the Larsian barbecue stalls in Fuente Osmeña have been put on hold pending vendors compliance with the rules set by the city. Freeman News Service
