Responding policemen shot the suspect, Albert Salut, 34, in the left thigh when he tried to attack them when he was cornered hours later in Sitio Wawa in Barangay San Rafael.
Armed with a bolo, Salut, a resident of Sitio Wawa proper, went into a hacking spree at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, killing six-year-old Jeeboy Baliwag on the spot.
Baliwags elder brother, Jerome, 7, and vendor Benedicto Redubla, 51, sustained several hack wounds. They are now confined at the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center in Marikina City.
Superintendent Dominador Penid, Rodriguez police chief, said Salut, who has been suffering from a mental illness, used to be confined at the National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong City.
