Bishop of Romblon passes away

BACOLOD CITY The bishop emeritus of Romblon succumbed to multiple organ failure at the Riverside Medical Center here on Saturday.
Msgr. Vicente Garrucho Salgado, 68, a native of Bacolod, is now lying in state at the Sacred Heart Seminary and will be buried at the crypt of the San Sebastian Cathedral on Friday after a 9 a.m. Mass.
Salgados death certificate stated that he died from multiple organ failure caused by end stage liver disease with malignant degeneration and acute renal failure.
Bishop Victorino Rivas, Vicar General of the Diocese of Bacolod, described the late Bishop Salgado as a hardworking man of God who retired as Bishop of Romblon only after he became ill.
Salgado was born in Bacolod City on April 20, 1936, ordained priest on Dec. 23, 1961 and was appointed Bishop of Romblon on May 30, 1988.
He was once a parish priest in Bacolod and Cadiz City. He also served as a rector of the Sacred Heart Seminary and the St. Joseph Regional Seminary in Jaro, Iloilo City.
