CEBU Citing an intelligence report, a Capitol consultant insisted that the threat of the New Peoples Army (NPA) to rescue political detainees from the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center is real and not a diversionary tactic as militant groups claimed.
Consultant Pablo John Garcia said Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has ordered the beefing up of escorts of political detainees during court hearings to prevent the NPA from rescuing them.
He said the NPA plan concerns political detainees Edgardo Sacamay, Ronald Sendrijas, Jigger Geverola and Gerry Pelenio.
He said the Armed Forces Central Command has validated the intelligence report which came from the Cebu provincial police.
As the provincial jail administrator, Garcia said the governor has to act decisively to thwart such a plan. Fred Languido and Flor Perolina/ Freeman News Service
