CEBU Despite having the most number of barangays allegedly influenced by the New Peoples Army, Tuburan towns barangay officials are opposed to the establishment of additional military detachments in the area.
Constancio Suezo, the president of the Association of Barangay Councils in Tuburan, said the barangay captains are opposed to a move to base more military units in the area as they fear that reinforcement units would not be able to respond quickly to emergency cases due to lack of roads.
Suezo said there are already four existing detachments in Tuburan, which are located in barangays Kalangahan, Montealegre, Bangi and Himamaa.
Reports say that Tuburan has six out of the 16 barangays in the entire province influenced by the NPA. These are the barangays Kamansi, Kaorasan, Bangkito, Kan-an, Kanlusing, and Tumogpa. Fred Languido/Freeman News Service
