Smuggled cellphones seized in Cebu

-
CEBU — A 40-foot container van seized by Customs personnel last Nov. 18 yielded more than 100 smuggled cellular phones when it was opened at the Cebu International Port (CIP) the other day.

The 147 used cellphones were included in the shipment of legally imported computer parts, office supplies and accessories consigned to a company in Yati, Liloan town.

The shipment arrived at the CIP last month from the United States on board M/V Ocean Park.

Prior to the shipment’s arrival, Troy Tan, chief of the Cebu Customs’ Risk Management Group, had received information that it contained undeclared cellular phones, prompting district collector Billy Bibit to alert his men. Fred Languido/Freeman News Service
