This, as members of the regional police command, in a show of support for the call of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Deputy Director General Edgar Aglipay, agreed to donate their one-day salary as their contribution to "national efforts of preventing a full-scale financial quandary."
With 3,203 police officers and personnel in the Cordillera Administrative Region, the contribution to the Pera para sa Pilipinas fund could amount to P1.162 million.
"This would (account) for 4.65 percent of the P25 million that the PNP intends to donate to the national treasury," said Chief Superintendent Rowland Albano, Cordillera police director.
Albano, who has a monthly base pay of P19,625.10, is donating P654.17 to the fund drive.
Besides the donation, the regional police command is also adopting belt-tightening measures.
"(We) will effect measures to conserve energy and water (consumption) and (reduce) telephone bills in order to save on resources and make more funds available for priority operations," he said.
Albano said he has instructed the logistics and comptrollership divisions to prioritize funds for urgent operations.
All issued staff cars will be given to operational units, while senior officers will be encouraged to use their own vehicles.
Police motorcycle escorts will also be discouraged, except when necessary, while lavish meals during command conferences will be shunned.
