Dengue claims 5 more lives in Central Luzon

ANGELES CITY — At least five people have died of dengue fever in Central Luzon, bringing to 896 the total number of victims of the mosquito-borne virus in the region this year.

Health officials, however, said the region seems to have passed the worse dengue threat last July.

"Our graphs show a declining trend in dengue cases which peaked last July, and it is rare for graphs to reflect more than one peak in a year," said Dr. Jesse Fantone, regional epidemiology chief of the Department of Health.

Fantone, however, urged residents to remain vigilant against dengue which is transmitted by the Aedes Egypti mosquitoes, saying inclement weather in the coming weeks might yet trigger another upsurge in cases. — Ding Cervantes
