Superintendent Fausto Manzanilla, Batangas City police chief, identified the victim as Ernesto Go, 50, owner of Formosa Commercial Center and one of the largest money changers in the city.
Go was declared dead on arrival at St. Patrick Hospital and Medical Center with a lone gunshot wound on his chest. Police recovered a caliber .38 revolver beside his body.
Investigation revealed that at around 7:30 a.m. Gos electricians Bashir Manalondong and Larry Gomez, heard a gunshot at the upper portion of the victims house.
The two workers immediately went to the victims unit to investigate and found him lying on a pool of blood.
According to the victims relative who refused to be identified, Go has long been complaining of bronchial asthma and alcoholism. She said "that could be the reason for ending his own life and all of his sufferings."
