BACOLOD CITY The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has reimposed the old fare for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) in Negros Occidental after both the drivers and the riding public protested its May 24 order setting P5.50 for the first four kilometers, or an increase of P1.50.
LTFRB chairman Ma. Elena Bautista ordered the rollback to the previous fare of P4 for the first five kilometers pending the imposition of a new rate for the province.
Bautistas order was the result of a consensus by PUJ drivers and operators during a public hearing here last Friday.
The United Negros Drivers and Operators Center said it had petitioned for an increase of P1.50 for the first five kilometers but the LTFRB instead imposed the adjustment nationwide for the first four kilometers. Antonieta Lopez
