Reds attack Bataan cop outpost

- Raffy Viray -
BALANGA CITY — At least 15 New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas attacked a newly built police and fire station in Orani, Bataan last Sunday, authorities said.

The rebels, who arrived aboard a passenger jeepney which they reportedly stole in Olongapo City, sprayed the police station in Barangay Mulawin with M-14 and M-16 Armalite bullets.

The seven policemen manning the police station, led by Senior Inspector Rodolfo Deticio, however, stood their ground and shot it out with the insurgents for five minutes. Nobody among the lawmen was injured.

The attack damaged the windshields of two firetrucks and Deticio’s Nissan car.

Senior Superintendent Sahiron Dulah Salim, Bataan police director, said the attackers belonged to NPA units operating in Bataan and Zambales, led by Roberto Reyes, alias Ka Turi, head of the Lino Blas Command.
