Chinese mentor murdered inside Pampanga school

- Ding Cervantes, Ric Sapnu -
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — A Chinese citizen, the assistant principal of a Chinese school here, was murdered by unidentified suspects Friday night.

Sy Co Ang, alias, Hong Shai Die, 60, assistant principal of Sin Seng School in Barangay Jose here, was found dead inside his office by Hermigilda Mandap, a school watcher, at around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Chief Inspectors Lorenzo Detran and Ferdinand Perez said that the still unidentified suspects barged into Ang’s office, stabbed him 21 times — 10 in the right side of his neck, three in the left, seven in his back and one in his chest — and carted away an undetermined amount of cash and valuables.

Investigators also found bloodstains in the office toilet, which police said was an indication that Ang had tried to fight off his assailants.

The Filipino-Chinese community here has expressed outrage over Ang’s killing.

San Fernando Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc. president Eddie Chua said that the local Chinese community is offering a P50,000 reward to anyone who could identify the suspects.

"The Chinese community is outraged by the brutal and merciless killing of Ang," he said.

Chua asked local police authorities to immediately identify and arrest the killers, stressing that the Chinese community and Ang’s family "want speedy justice".

He said Ang was an active member of the Filipino-Chinese community here and had been active in various civic activities such as medical missions and relief operations.

Alex Ong, chairman of the Board of Trustees and principal of Sin Seng School, has asked police investigators to invite a school janitor, whom he did not identify, to "shed light" on the murder.
