Bangus center opens tomorrow

DAGUPAN CITY President Arroyo, Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and Agriculture Secretary Luis Lorenzo will inaugurate the Philippine Bangus Center at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) complex here tomorrow.
Located on a 24-hectare lot, the bangus (milkfish) center aims to produce 200 million eggs once it is totally operational next year, Westly Rosario, BFAR-Dagupan chief, said.
Rosario said the center, the first of its kind in the country, hopes to offset the domestic shortfall of 700 million bangus fry a year.
He said the center will also train local government units and the private sector on bangus hatchery. Eva Visperas
