P’sinan towns to get respite from floods

DAGUPAN CITY — Residents of the third, fourth and fifth districts of Pangasinan are expected to experience respite from floodings with the construction of a closure dike as part of flood control projects in Sison, Mangaldan and San Fabian towns.

The projects, costing P98 million, is funded by the Countrywide Development Fund (CDF) of House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr.

Engineer Fidel Ginez, assistant regional director of the Department of Public Works and Highways and concurrent project manager of the Agno Flood Control Project based in Tumana, Rosales town, said the first project involves the construction of a P53-million closure dike in Barangay Amag-bagan, Sison town.

Work on the closure dike began last July 25. It is expected to be finished on Jan. 30, 2004.

The second project involves the construction of a P45-million earth dike in Barangay Embarcadero-Salaan, Mangaldan town and in Patalan-Lungos, San Fabian town.

The dike project commenced on July 9. It is also expected to be completed on Jan. 30, 2004.

Both dike projects are now 75-percent complete. — Eva Visperas
