Bonanza awaits Angeles lawmen

ANGELES CITY — For a job well done in the fight against kidnappings, a bonanza consisting of spot promotions, cash rewards, commendations and medals await this city’s police chief and 11 of his men.

For one, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin said the city council is expected to approve his proposal to earmark P200,000 for the cash rewards of city police chief Senior Superintendent Jimmy Restua and his men for killing notorious kidnap gang leader Roberto Yap and three of his henchmen in a shootout in Dinalupihan, Bataan Thursday morning.

Restua and three of his men — PO1s Juan Carlos Bustos, Emmet Nunag and Florentino de la Cruz — were wounded in the clash.

Lazatin said the family of PO1 Joselito Esguerra, the lone police fatality in the shootout, would receive some P100,000 in financial assistance.

He said he expects Camp Crame to announce the spot promotions of Restua and his men, including a posthumous one for Esguerra.

Lazatin said he would also issue recommendations and award medals to Restua’s team.
