‘Bomb supplier’ threatened to kill self

-
CEBU CITY — The threat of suspected bomb supplier Antonio Reyes to commit suicide inside his detention cell prompted his family to immediately post bail without waiting for the court’s ruling on their motion for the reduction of bail.

This was the explanation of lawyer Luzvimindo Besanio to Regional Trial Court Judge Ireneo Gako when he was asked why Reyes posted bail with another judge when they knew that he was handling the case.

Gako also asked why Reyes filed a motion for the reduction of bail when they could afford the P200,000 recommended by the prosecutor’s office.

Besanio said his client pleaded to his family to raise the amount because he could no longer stand the situation inside the detention cell.

Reyes allegedly threatened to commit suicide, prompting his family to sell his house in Tangke, Talisay.

It was not immediately known where Reyes is residing now after his house was sold because he refuses to be interviewed.

Gako was satisfied with the explanation and ordered the pre-trial of the case to proceed.

Besanio said Reyes was just mistaken by the police as a supplier of explosives to international terrorist Fathur Rohman al-Ghozi, claiming there are three other Antonio Reyeses residing in Barangay Tangke, Talisay.

He said it could be one of the two other Antonio Reyeses.

Gako ordered prosecutor Eulogio Borres to be ready with his witness during the initial reception of evidence on Sept. 2, saying he will not entertain any postponements. Freeman News Service
