For their honesty, Charlito Gicana, employed with the Cornerstone Security Agency, and PO2 Judith Sanico got commendations from Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella.
Presidential brother-in-law Ignacio Arroyo also rewarded Gicana with P5,000 cash and a college scholarship for his second son who had to stop schooling due to financial constraints.
The management of the Supercat is also set to give citations to Gicana and Sanico.
Initial reports only cited Gicana, but it later turned out that it was Sanico who spotted the wallet on the floor of the Supercat terminal lobby at the Bredco port. Sanico then turned the wallet over to Gicana.
Gicana said they later saw a woman who appeared to be frantically looking for something at the lobby. The woman turned out to be a returning worker from Guam who was on her way to Iloilo City to buy a piece of property.
Gicana said they opened the wallet and saw a thick wad of dollar bills and an identification card with the photograph of the woman.
His first instinct, he said, was to return the money. The overseas worker gave him a $5 reward.
"There are still people who are honest and are taking good care of their job because they love it and are contented with what they have," Gicana said.
