Caraga narc agent slain

- Ben Serrano -
BUTUAN CITY — He was supposed to penetrate the world of illegal drug pushers but allegedly ended up hooked by drugs himself.

While staying in his friend’s house in Purok 2, Barangay Ong Yiu here, PO1 Napoleon Mara—villa was shot dead by a gunman wearing a malong and whom, witnesses said, he called "pare" (friend).

Maravilla, formerly assigned to the Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division of the Caraga police, sustained six gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.

Witnesses said Maravilla pleaded for his life. "P’re ayaw na, pasayloa na lang ko (Please don’t, my friend. Forgive me)," he was quoted as saying.

But the gunman, believed to be a drug pusher, shot him twice in the head and then pumped four more bullets into his body before casually walking away from the crime scene.

Sharon Tutuan, a confidential agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), said Maravilla was known to be a drug buster but who "fell to the addictive taste of shabu and later lost his life to persons he had befriended and exchanged his police service for."
