74-year-old devoured by hungry pigs

MABINI, Batangas — A septuagenarian was found being devoured by the pigs she had been raising in her backyard last Wednesday night.

Senior Inspector Noel Sandoval, Mabini police chief, said 74-year-old Juana Bantugon apparently turned unconscious after suffering a heart attack while feeding her 12 hungry pigs in a pigpen about 200 meters away from her house in Barangay Estrella here.

Dr. Luisito Ramos, municipal health officer, said Bantugon had been suffering from hypertension and a heart ailment.

Sandoval said the pigs had mangled the old woman’s body, devouring her arms, thighs and internal organs, when a relative found her.

Bantugon’s family decided to slaughter all the pigs and bury them in the backyard. — Arnell Ozaeta
