Quake jolts Leyte, Samar

TACLOBAN CITY A 10-second earthquake shook parts of Leyte and Samar at about 1:45 a.m. yesterday, government volcanologists said.
The temblor was felt at Intensity 5 in Borongan, Eastern Samar, and at Intensity 4 in the Leyte towns of Dulag, Merida and Palo and this city.
Myra Dolina, science research specialist of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismologys Region 8 office, said the earthquake was of tectonic origin whose epicenter was 33 kilometers southeast of Borongan.
Phivolcs recorded a series of mild aftershocks, Dolina said.
No quake-related damage was reported in the affected areas, according to Alfredo Fuego, regional director of the Office of Civil Defense. Miriam Garcia Desacada
