ILAGAN, Isabela The schools division superintendent of this province vowed to resign if allegations of massive fraud in the May 12 special elections in the fourth congressional district are proven.
"If indeed there were fraud committed in our level, then I would resign my post without any condition because my name and credibility are at stake," said Dr. Benito Tumamao in a statement.
He was reacting to the pastoral letter of Ilagan Bishop Sergio Utleg calling for the resignation of all members of the district board of election canvassers.
Former senior board member Giorgidi Aggabao was declared winner in the special polls. His rival was Dr. Asuncion Abaya, widow of fourth district Rep. Antonio Abaya, whose death led to the special elections.
In Manila, Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. formed a three-man panel to look into the fraud allegations. With Jose Aravilla
