ZAMBOANGA CITY A Thai ship engineer was murdered by a compatriot aboard their vessel docked off a village east of this city last Thursday, police said.
Police identified the victim as Amuruk Uang-gura, 22, port engineer of M/V Aris, and the arrested suspect as Suknet Rungphetnimit, 36.
Their fellow crewmen initially claimed that Uang-gura fell to his death from the second deck of the vessel, which arrived from Solomon Island last Saturday to deliver logs to the Mega Plywoods plant in Barangay Arena Blanco.
Probers, however, discovered that Uang-gura had a bullet in the head. Investigation showed that the victim and the suspect engaged in a drinking bout that ended up in the fatal shooting. Roel Pareño
