Using siren and blinker for crime does not pay

- Rene Alviar -
CALAMBA CITY — They used a siren and a blinker in their car in preying on their targeted holdup victims.

But the same siren and blinker triggered their arrest and the discovery of their involvement in other highway robberies and murders.

Marvin Fajardo, 24, son of one of the convicted kidnappers of Wakaoji, a Japanese businessman, in 1986, and his companion Jessart Carandang, 27, son of a former policeman of this city, were taken to the police headquarters after they failed to justify the use of siren in their white Mazda pick-up (DCN 407) while traveling along a national road in Canlubang, Laguna Wednesday morning.

Fajardo and Carandang were subsequently charged with violation of Presidential Decree 96 for illegal use of siren.

Recovered from the suspects were a caliber .38 revolver; a Samurai sword; several holsters for different types of guns, a toy gun and others valuables.

While the two were being investigated at the police station at about 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, a couple, who were following up a robbery case, positively identified them as the armed men who held them up on April 21 in Barangay Pansol, this city of cash and other valuables.

Further check on their identities revealed the duo were also involved in car theft and highway robberies such as the robbing of Bhupender Bhojal, an Indian national on April 20 of P8,000, cellular phones and a Honda 110 cc motorcycle.

Fajardo was also suspected to be involved in the killing of Gilmore Desuyo on April 9 in the neighboring town of Cabuyao.

Senior Supt. Cesario Valencia, Cabuyao police chief, said police were investigating deeper on the background of Fajardo and Carandang to determine if the two were also responsible the killing of a drug dependent last month and other robbery cases in the town.
