Grenade hurled at Mutilan’s house

COTABATO CITY — A Mark II fragmentation grenade exploded yesterday at the residential compound here of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Vice Gov. Mahid Mutilan.

Although no one was reported killed or injured in the attack, it triggered panic among the residents long been gripped by threats of bombings by big extortion gangs and retaliatory attacks by local secessionist forces.

Superintendent Sam Maguid, community relations chief of the city police, said the grenade was hurled at Mutilan’s frontyard at about 1:15 a.m. by one of two men who just casually walked away from the scene after the blast.

Mutilan, also concurrent ARMM education secretary, has been out of the city since last month on official business. He has been holding office in Marawi City most of the time. — John Unson
