DAVAO CITY Because its teachers refused to shell out at least 10 percent of their income as "revolutionary tax," a public high school in Caraga, Davao Oriental was burned down by communist guerrillas last Wednesday afternoon.
Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Obaniana, commander of the Armys 701st Infantry Brigade, said the rebels who torched the San Luis High School were led by a certain Marino Bahinting, secretary-general of the NPAs Front 15 in Southern Mindanao.
Obaniana said it would be impossible for the teachers to give in to the rebels demand because they themselves are grossly underpaid. Edith Regalado
