No more seas for Julius

Julius Maunas, 20, a second year BSMT student at the Davao Merchant Marine School, was at the Davao Airport on that fateful Tuesday afternoon together with his mother Yolanda and brother Rene to meet their sister Lilibeth who just came from Japan and was on board the Cebu Pacific flight from Manila that arrived at 5:10 p.m. that afternoon.

Of the three of them who were there at the waiting shed, only Julius was killed while his mother and brother suffered serious injuries and are now confined at the San Pedro Hospital.

Randy, the eldest among the Maunas siblings, told The STAR that Julius was their youngest and was so considerate of the needs of his family living at the DDF Village in Barangay Mandug, this city.

"He was so good and had a habit of just keeping silent most of the time. He never gave our family any problem," Randy said.

The victim was said to have opted to shy away from girls and vowed not to romantically get involved with anyone until he finished his studies.

"I asked him last December while we were having a drinking spree who his girlfriend was and he just answered me that he would finish his studies first, work abroad after the course he is taking, and build our mother a house before he would get into romantic relations," Randy said.

But clearly the perpetrators of the dastardly act cut Julius’ life short and have also killed the dreams of my brother," the eldest Maunas said.
