Red tide alert on in Masbate, Sorsogon

-
PILI, Camarines Sur — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has raised the red tide alert in the waters of Mandaon and Milagros in Masbate and the Juag lagoon in Matnog, Sorsogon.

But Edna Tod, head of the regional fisheries diagnostic laboratory, said there is no shellfish ban in Sorsogon Bay.

So far, she said there have been no cases of paralytic shellfish poisoning in the affected areas, noting that villagers are not fond of eating local shellfish called bebe.

The red tide alert is also enforced in Samar, Leyte, Cancabato Bay and Masinloc waters in Zambales, Honda Bay in Palawan, Bais Bay in Negros Oriental and Dumangullas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur. – Celso Amo
