4 killed, 3 others wounded in trike, bus collision

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – Four persons were killed, including a six-month old baby boy, while three others were in serious condition after the tricycle they were riding smashed into a shuttle bus along the national highway in Barangay Halang, Thursday morning.

The victims were identified as Ricardo Villamin, his two daughters Ruby, 18; Rica May, three, and a grandson Dominic Andaya, six months. They were declared dead on the spot due to the strong impact.

The injured were identified as Olimpia Villamin, and her two sons, Rodney and Lester, both suffered fractures and bruises. They are confined at the JPPM hospital.

Police have filed charges of multiple homicide and multiple serious physical injuries against the driver, Francisco Bautista of Sta. Teresa Enterprises shuttle bus.

Police records showed the vehicular accident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, when the victims were aboard a motorized tricycle (XB-2929) driven by Villamin enroute to Los Baños, Laguna. Police said the tricycle overtook a passenger jeepney and collided with the shuttle bus. According to the police both drivers were trying to beat the red light. – Ed Amoroso
