ILIGAN CITY From Jalosjos to another Jalosjos.
The Commission on Elections proclaimed Mayor Cecilia Jalosjos-Carreon of Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte yesterday as the new representative of the first congressional district of Zamboanga del Norte, replacing her jailed brother, former Rep. Romeo Jalosjos.
Jalosjos is serving two life terms for raping a minor. The Supreme Court recently upheld the sentence imposed on him by the Makati Regional Trial Court, prompting the House of Representatives to drop him from its roster of members.
Carreon will serve the remaining one year and three months of Jalosjos or until 2004.
Carreon won by a landslide the special election held last Monday, garnering 64,000 votes. Her rivals Artemio Adaza Jr. had 8,404; Orlando Salatandre, 6,232, and Elias Pamatong, 918 votes.
She will take her oath of office today before President Arroyo in the town of Sergio Osmeña.
