Recall election set in Puerto Princesa

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) ordered yesterday the holding of recall election on Sept. 7 for the mayorship of Puerto Princesa City.
This, as the poll body dismissed, for lack of merit, the petition of incumbent Mayor Victorino Dennis Socrates to nullify the results of the preparatory recall assembly (PRA) held last July 2.
Of the city’s 528 barangay officials, 312 convened the PRA, saying they have lost confidence in Socrates’ leadership.
The poll body, in an en banc resolution, said the number constituted a legal majority. — Sandy Araneta
