2 Davao hospital workers face raps

DAVAO CITY — Two employees of the San Pedro Hospital here are facing charges in court for allegedly jacking up the prices of medicines intended for a pneumonia-afflicted senior citizen.

Elma Galagar and Jaime Amscua, accounting chief and pharmacist, respectively, posted P2,000 bail each for alleged violation of Republic Act 6432 or the Senior Citizens Act.

The law mandates 20-percent discount for the medicines of senior citizens.

The city prosecutor’s office acted on the complaint filed by Benedict Adan whose mother Nilda was confined at the San Pedro Hospital for pneumonia last Jan. 17.

The young Adan said there were discrepancies in the prices of medicines he bought from the hospital’s pharmacy on Jan. 18 and 19, which allegedly violated RA 6432. — Edith Regalado
