P28-M 1-km. Iloilo road questioned

BRGY. BUCARI, LEON, Iloilo – Where in the country can you find a 1-km road project of the national government that costs P28-million?

With this question, an Iloilo provincial board member called for an investigation of the concrete-widening project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in this town that is worth P28 million.

Romulo Cabana, a provincial board member representing the second district of Iloilo and Chairman on the committee on Infrastructure, told The STAR that he is calling the provincial government to create a special committee that will monitor and evaluate this project implemented by the DPWH and funded by Rep. Agusto Boboy Syjuco of the second district of Iloilo.

Caligan explained to The STAR that the Maliao Section project should not be compared to the ordinary road project on the national highway because of the terrain.

"If only the terrain of the road is flat with out any blasting on the hills side, the project might cost P5 million," he said.

Calican clarified that the biggest part of the budget is from solid rock excavation worth P11,618,803.46. This moolves to level an area meters in width and 10 meters in height.
