Key suspect in ‘Japino’ boy’s slay kills self

The alleged mastermind in the abduction-killing of a Japanese-Filipino boy hanged himself to death with an electrical cord inside his home in Norzagaray, Bulacan, police said yesterday.

Police said Alejandro Vargas, 45, could have committed suicide about three to four days ago. His decomposing body was found yesterday morning after neighbors complained about a foul smell coming from his house in Barangay Tigbe, Norzagaray.

Vargas had been hunted down in connection with the killing of his six-year-old nephew, Takeshi Adachi. The boy’s remains were dug up in the Norzagaray cemetery last April 26. Local folk found him dead in a ravine.

Five men, believed to be led by Vargas, broke into the Adachis’ residence in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on the night of April 15. They fled with the boy after killing Vargas’ wife Nancy and the family driver, Nelson Aglahi. — Jaime Laude
