Multisectoral dialogue set in Cagayan de Oro

Community leaders from Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental, representing various church, business and civic organizations, will meet tomorrow in Cagayan de Oro for a workshop on empowerment, governance and transparency.
Six workshops will cover the following topics: transparency in public works, strengthening of small and medium-scale enterprises, participation in local elections, improving agricultural productivity, the role of the media in creating an empowered community, and poverty.
Representatives from various government agencies and the private sector will attend the workshops.
Officials of Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, the departments of public works and highways, interior and local government, trade and industry, social welfare and development and agriculture, the Philippine Information Authority, Commission on Elections and the Philippine Coconut Authority will shed light on government programs.
Representing the private sector are church leaders from the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, and key officials of the local chamber of commerce and industry, Bishops-Businessmens Conference, Xavier University, Philippine Contractors Association, Mindanao Business Council and Society of Civil Engineers.
The government and private sector will try to come up with ways on how they can build and develop their respective communities.
"The primary objective of (the workshops) is to build loving, caring, sharing and empowered communities by harnessing the wealth of human resources to effect the creation of a conscienticized group who can serve as prime movers to bring about the total human development in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental," the Bishops-Businessmens Conference said in a statement.
