BOC hits monthly goal

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported yesterday that it has surpassed its assigned collection target for the two-month period (January-February) by 0.8 percent or P110 million on the basis of the original target at P115.126 billion for CY 2002.

Outgoing Customs Commissioner Titus Villanueva said his agency has collected some P14.487 billion in actual cash collection against a target of P14.377 billion for the said period. Villanueva said these figures do not include the Tax Expenditure Fund (TEF), which are the taxes and duties payable by the government and government-owned or controlled corporations to the Customs bureau.

As compared with last year’s collection for the same period the BOC overshoot this by 16 percent or P1.994 billion.

Villanueva said that while he is set to retire on March 13 he finds it his duty and obligation to leave the BOC in tip-top shape even up to his last hours in office.

Villanueva will turn over the reins of the BOC to his successor — top-notch lawyer Antonio Bernardo on March 14 in a simple ceremony to be held at the Customs head office at the South Harbor.
