Badjao NGO is Consuelo awardee

A people’s organization based in Jolo, Sulu that has helped empower the seafaring Badjao community is making history by becoming the first recipient of the 2001 Consuelo Award.

Patti Lyons, president and chief executive officer of the Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation, said the Sanyang Multi-Purpose Cooperative will be honored in ceremonies on Nov. 29, the death anniversary of the benefactress of the foundation bearing her name and after whom the award was named.

The Consuelo Award recognizes outstanding Filipino non-government organizations that have made a significant difference in transforming the lives of disadvantaged children, women and families.

Four other NGOs will be cited: the Pangarap Foundation in Pasay City, Families and Children for Empowerment and Development in Manila, CRIBS (Create Responsive Infants by Sharing) in Ma—rikina City, and Shontoug Foundation in Baguio City.
