CEBU CITY The city council has declared the city under a state of calamity and approved the release of P1 million for the emergency purchase of food for families affected by tropical storm "Nanang" and for relief and rescue operations.
Councilor Gerardo Carillo, vice chairman of the councils social services committee, said the money, to be taken from the citys P53.8-million calamity fund, will be used to buy food, flashlights, batteries, raincoats, chainsaws and three portable generators.
The state of calamity was declared after several parts of the city was flooded due to strong rains dumped by "Nanang."
