Cop taken for a thief shot dead

SAN JOSE DEL MONTE CITY, Bulacan A police captain, mistaken for a thief, was shot dead by another police officer Monday dawn in Barangay Kaypian here.
Initial police reports said Police Senior Inspector Anastacio Lopez, 47, of San Francisco Homes in Barangay Kaypian here, assigned at the Region III police headquarters in Camp Olivas, Pampanga, allegedly entered the house of one Vilma Luna while under the influence of alcohol.
The terrified Luna ran out of the house and sought the assistance of SPO1 Placido Aquino, assigned at the Kaypian police substation, who happened to be her neighbor.
At Lunas house, Aquino asked Lopez to identify himself, but instead of giving his identity, Lopez allegedly poised to draw his .45 caliber pistol, Aquino immediately fired at Lopez with his M-16 Armalite service rifle.
Lopez sustained several gunshot wounds in his body. James Mananghaya
