Tarlac open dumpsite hit

TARLAC CITY — Residents of a western barangay here are up in arms after city officials ignored their demand that a three-hectare open dumpsite be closed because it is polluting their ricefields.

Since Thursday night, residents of Barangay San Luis, armed with bolos, have been preventing garbage trucks from passing through their village.

They vowed to oppose the continued use of the dumpsite in neighboring Barangay San Jose de Urquico. — Benjie Villa
