LAOAG CITY It looks like Ilocos Norte Gov. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.s woes are far from over. He was first besieged by reports alluding to his alleged romantic ties with a controversial commercial model in Metro Manila, which he had denied.
Next, he was fending insinuations that his wife, lawyer Luisa Araneta-Marcos, has deserted their conjugal home because of his alleged philandering.
The "desertion" story was triggered by Mrs. Marcos resignation as chairperson of the Museo Ilokos and her subsequent "disappearance" from the provincial scene.
Now, at a time when his services are needed most, chief Marcos defender and spokesman Lito Gorospe has resigned his job here as provincial press officer.
The veteran broadcast media practitioner, who also served the late President Ferdinand Marcos in Malacañang, had reportedly held off his planned resignation until he (Gorospe) left for his annual vacation to the United States last week.
Gorospe reportedly left his resignation letter with his secretary Angie who, in turn, submitted it to Bongbongs office a few days ago.
Gorospe had been known here as insistent in pursuing a wholesome public image for the governor.
The contents of his resignation letter were not made public, and his secretary was not willing to talk to newsmen.
Bongbong was not available for comment when The STAR tried to reach him. Sources said he had gone on official leave.
He earlier lambasted a radio reporter who asked him, during a press briefing, about the whereabouts of his wife.
"Thats a private matter. Its none of your business," Bongbong shot back at the shocked reporter.
