Magna carta for barangays
July 13, 2001 | 12:00am
Senate President Aquilino Pimentel Jr. is pushing for a bill giving barangay officials fixed salaries and other benefits that other regular government employees receive.
Under Pimentels proposed Magna Carta for Barangays, a barangay chairman will be paid a salary equivalent to the monthly income of a city or municipal councilor.
The barangay council members, including the Sanggunian Kabataan chairman, will also get salaries. The same goes for the barangay and SK secretaries and treasurers.
Barangay officials will also be entitled to allowances, insurance, medical and dental coverage, retirement and other fringe benefits. Aurea Calica
