Bicol police chief Robert Delfin identified the victim as Superintendent William Garan, 50, the deputy police director of Sorsogon province.
Delfin condemned the killing upon learning that the victim was unarmed when shot at close range by seven men in fatigue uniform.
Initial investigation showed that Garan’s car was flagged down by the young-looking suspects in Barangay Macalaya, Castilla town.
The suspects asked for his firearm and when he yielded nothing, one man from behind shot him in the head with an M-16 Armalite rifle.
The victim’s wife, Letty, and a grandson were with him in the car and witnessed the killing.
Police probers believed that the suspects had subjected the victim to a long surveillance before he was killed.  Cet Dematera
