Domingo’s son yields to GMA plea, drops Congress bid

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The son of Immigration Commissioner Andrea Domingo announced here yesterday that he is backing out of the congressional race in this province’s third district.

Dr. Eric Domingo is giving way to re-electionist Rep. Oscar Rodriguez whose role in the impeachment trial against former President Joseph Estrada has made him a hero in the eyes of the local folk.

Domingo, who filed his candidacy under Lakas-NUCD-Kampi, said his decision to back out was in deference to the wishes of President Arroyo who approached him during her birthday visit to Pampanga last April 5 to seek his help in uniting the party in the province.

"Who am I to disappoint the President?" he said in an interview with local station dwRW-FM.

He said Mrs. Arroyo asked him to "reconsider" his congressional bid and just help her in the "executive branch."
