Dagupan bet cheats death

DAGUPAN CITY — A vice mayoral bet of this city cheated death when he managed to escape from two knife-wielding men who chased him after a campaign sortie Sunday night.

Alvin Fernandez, son of Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., told reporters he was lucky to have boarded his vehicle and sped away after encountering the two men in Barangay Bonuan Gueset.

He urged the Commission on Elections to place certain barangays, including Bonuan, under its control, although he conceded the attack was an isolated incident. — Eva de Leon
