Alfredo Macabasag Jr., spokesman of the Manicani Metro Manila Residents Organization Inc., said the nickel mining operations of the Hinatuan Mining Corp. owned by the Zamoras in 1,165 hectares of Barangay Manicani, Guian town pose threats to the environment and the villagers’ health.
The mining operations are directly affecting at least four barangays (Hamorawon, Buenavista, Bana-ag and San Jose), he said. — Jose Rodel Clapano
