Stop mining operations of the Zamoras

A Metro Manila-based group of residents of Guian, Eastern Samar urged the Arroyo administration yesterday to stop the mining operations of the family of former Executive Secretary Ronaldo Zamora in their hometown.
Alfredo Macabasag Jr., spokesman of the Manicani Metro Manila Residents Organization Inc., said the nickel mining operations of the Hinatuan Mining Corp. owned by the Zamoras in 1,165 hectares of Barangay Manicani, Guian town pose threats to the environment and the villagers health.
The mining operations are directly affecting at least four barangays (Hamorawon, Buenavista, Bana-ag and San Jose), he said. Jose Rodel Clapano
